Something different for me to review this time, it's a portable mini studio with built in lighting. This HanSemay small, portable and foldable photo studio tent is currently on sale for under £20 and wanted to see what sort of quality of photos I could get using this mini studio.
The mini studio comes in a fabric drawstring bag and the contents are:-
1 x Mini photo studio
1 x Instruction leaflet
1 x White PVA backdrop
1 x Black PVA backdrop
1 x USB to micro USB charging cable
the studio is made from a thin matt white plastic which resists light flaring a;so being plastic is easy to keep clean. When folded it measures approximately 9.8 x 9 x 0.5 inches and when assembled 9.5 x 9 x 9 inches. The backdrop clips in the back of the mini studio and you can chose which shade depending on your subject and preferences. I suppose you could use the supplied backdrops and use them as a template to make your own backdrops in various colours of your choice.
There is a built in LED light strip which needs a power source to work, I used my power bank and the supplied USB cable but any source with a USB port such as a laptop, phone charger. USB mains adaptor plug etc would do.
The mini studio is easy to assemble thanks to the 6 x corner magnets, the instructions could be a bit clearer but by trial and error I soon discovered the best way to assemble it. I decided to test it by taking a photo of a piece of small jewellery which can be a pain to light properly and I got surprisingly good results which can be seen in my video. I also took a photo of an action figure and was happy with that as well.
Who might need this mini studio ? Well I think people who make and sell small craft products could us this for semi-professional looking photos of their products. Also it would be useful for people to take good photos of their jewellery for insurance purposes and naturalist or archaeologists to take photos of their specimens especially as this is portable and could be used on site/ The thing is that it is easy to use and you don't have to mess about with setting up studio lighting so anyone can use this studio.
