Having two dogs, we have a lot of hair throughout our house. I am always looking for ways to help the dogs with the shedding problem and with pulling the hair free from them. The problem is most tools are made for longer haired dogs. My dogs both have short hair. I got these dematting tools in hopes that MAYBE I might be able to help them, but doubtful it would help.
In this set you get two dematting brushes designed to dig in under the outer coat and deep underneath to the undercoat. There are longer teether on the comb that are sharper on the inside than on the outside to help cut through the dense mats and hair without hurting the dog. You SHOULD hold the dog's skin under the mat to make sure you aren't pulling hair out by the root. It may take some work to get the mats worked through and detangled, but with tools like this, you should be able to do it.
And it hasn't helped them all that much, just as I feared. It is not designed to help dogs like mine. I am sure it would help with longer haired dogs, and definitely with cats with long hair. But when you have short haired dogs, it isn't going to make much impact. There isn't anything to reach through and get underneath to pull the hair free.
Does it still help pull hair free? Yes. Of course. But it is no different than most of the other brushes I have for them.
I honestly don't foresee us using them for my dogs. I have other brushes that work better for their needs since they have shorter coats. I have nothing to try to get under, so these don't come in handy for us at all. I probably shouldn't have even tried.
As for longer haired dogs and cats and the effectiveness, I can't say since I have not had the chance to try it. It probably works okay for that, but I don't know honestly.
