~ What ~
Made of colorfully painted wood, this set includes 180 pieces of 12 differently-shaped wood cut-outs with 24 double-sided picture cards that have shape suggestions to build. The blocks measure from 0.4 to 1.9 inches; the tangram measures 2.5 by 2.7 inches. All fit in a 9.2 by 6.8 by 1.6 inch gift box that includes a drawstring bag.
~ Why ~
Having several grandchildren under 7-years old, this is a perfect project for a rainy day. While the 1-year old can hold the different shaped pieces, the 4-year olds can match and count colors and even copy the designs on the cards. The eldest child can make things with the blocks by gluing them on paper. I appreciate the pieces are made of wood and painted, not foam or cheap cardboard. There are so many design options on the added cards. The case and bag are handy to store everything.
~ Why Not ~
Some may not care for the blocks being wood and prefer plastic. Others may wish they were bigger, yet I think little ones will like their sizes.
~ Wish ~
I wish the pieces were a little bigger as they could be a choking hazard for those under 3-years of age.
~ Want ~
If you are looking for a puzzle set for young ones to learn colors and shapes with multiple suggestions on added cards, this would be helpful, allowing their imagination and creativity to shine.
