This was just the simplest thing to install. I'm using this on my desktop PC with windows 7. It's always been hard wired, but I wanted to move the PC upstairs which means the hard wiring is no longer practical unless we put something in the walls. I had to set it up while still connected with a wired connection for windows 7 to download the driver... but that was done in a flash. I get a consistent 4 bars on the reception the only bottleneck is the USB sockets on my desktop which are USB 2. I know I could upgrade the speed by installing a USB 3 card, but for me the speed I get is just fine. Just been using it for a few days so farand all is well!!
