I have used a laptop for YEARS now, enjoying to work from the couch instead of sitting in a chair at a desk. I do all of my web work, reviews, and writing from my laptop, kicking my feet up and relaxing. I have used a variety of cooling pads under my laptop to keep them off of my lap and to prevent overheating. Unfortunately, my old laptop cooling pad long ago died. I have continued to use the cooling pad, but cut the wires off since they were useless. Lately, my laptop fan has been running nonstop when I work, so I knew that despite the use of the cooling pad, my laptop needed something more to help prolong it. It is on its last leg and I will have to upgrade to a new one in the next year, if not sooner, so I am doing everything I can to get the last bit of life out of it I can.
This fan had mixed reviews on Amazon. Some said it was great and worked exactly as intended. Others claim it was not worth the purchase and didn't do its job. I wasn't sure if I should invest in this or not because they seemed so mixed, almost half good and half bad. But I thought I would take a chance on it. I figured it was better than what I have now, regardless of whether it worked for the long haul or not.
I have been using it for a few days now and so far so good. I am happy with it at this point. It doesn't quite sit as nicely on my lap as my old one did. There are rubber feet on the bottom to keep it from slipping from a table or moving about, which irritate my legs when sitting on my lap. But I am learning to position it differently and still work. That is a minor irritation to me, not worth concern.
There are five different fans in this cooling pad. You have controls on the back of the unit to turn them on or off. It connects via usb, coming with a cable that is usb to usb. I plugged the cable in to the cooling pad, coiled it up some to keep the length from dragging, and then plugged it in to the usb port on the back of my laptop. There are two buttons on the back that control the fans. You can turn on four of the fans with one of the buttons and the larger central fan with the other. They are all lit with a pretty blue light that has no function that I know of. There are also two usb ports on the back of the cooling pad in case you need another one since you used the port on the back of your laptop to power up the pad. I plug my wireless mouse in to that port and it works fine with my laptop.
The top of the cooling pad is an open mesh grid that allows the fans within to circulate the air under your laptop. It has a rubber pad near the bottom to keep your laptop from sliding off. Some reviews complained that their laptops did slide and it didn't hold them, but mine has been solidly in place the entire time I have used it. Not once has it started to slip.
I am impressed by the amount of heat this has sucked from my laptop. If I put my hand on either side of the cooling pad under my laptop, I can feel the air being blown out. It is doing a great job of keeping my laptop cooled and running smoothly. I have not heard the fan in my laptop turn on once since I started using this pad.
I have been very happy with this cooling pad since I began using it, but it has only been a few days, so we will see how long it truly lasts for me. As of now, it is working exactly as it is intended and I have no complaints.
