Another must for Scouters!

My boys do a lot of camping and outdoor activities, thanks to Scouts. Because of that, we need to have some good pocket knives on hand. It is amazing how fast a child can dull a knife and how no matter how many sharpenings you do, you always have to sharpen some more! I have whet stones for each one of us now since the boys kept stealing mine!

This knife was not a super expensive one, so I thought perhaps it might be a good one to use for now. My youngest just bridged in to Boy Scouts from Cub Scouts, and they use their pocket knives a lot more than the Cubs do. I figured it was time to buy my son a good knife, since he had a fairly cheap, generic souvenir type of knife from our trip to San Antonio. I thought this might be okay, but wasn't sure since I didn't have it in hand to check it out personally. I took the risk and ordered.

It is a nice solid knife and seems like it is going to be a good one. But the blade is just a bit too big for his hand. He is a shrimp and doesn't seem to be growing any, and so far every knife I have tried to get for him the blade is larger than his palm. Luckily, my older son likes it and said he has his knife he has been using that has been good for him and still has plenty of life left in it since they learn to care for them. It is small enough his brother can use no problem.

This knife has a lot more involved with it than just the knife itself. It has a Bottle Opener, Glass breaker, Seat belt cutter, Self defense tactical knife, and mini-saw. The additional sharpener has a compass in the side and a whistle built in. I love all of these features in it because they are all things that they need when Scouting. It is made of a solid black carbide and though it doesn't have a spring loaded action, it does have a self locking mechanism to help kepe it shut when closed. The unfolded length is about 200mm while the folded length is 120mm. This set also comes with a sharpener, which is always needed around here.  

Overall, this is a great knife with lots of features and tools included for the price you pay.  I think this will do wonders for my boys as they work their way up the ranks in Boy Scouts.
