Step in the middle of the rope and the handles shoud stop in your armpits. If they keep going you need to shorten the rope. The handles unscrew to expose the ends of stainless steel wire rope inside that after the end cap is slid down can be adjusted and cut with wire cutters to shorten the length . Reattach the handles and away you go.
