I decided to get this as a gift for my niece to use as a small music or book storage device when she needs to unwind, as she looses her Ipod a lot and I figured that it could not hurt to have a back up for when she is working on her work for chorus, her talent show piece, or even just wants something to listen to while she draws. The package arrived on time and undamaged. The MP3 player comes in a box with a charging cord, although no wall port, and a set of ear phones too. I realized that it had a built in speaker, but not that the earphones came included as well. The device appears very sturdy; it is metal and looks like it would hold up to a beating. It looks light a great device for gym use since it should hold up to jostling.
When I opened the set, my first thought was that the gold has a decidedly pink tint. I loaded one of my Harry Potter audiobooks and a few songs to test it out. Those all worked fine; they were in MP3 form and ran well. That said, be sure you have time to listen through the end of the chapter in an audiobook as the MP3 does not save your place. The built in speaker is low in volume when you try to listen that way compared to with ear phones. However, the volume was pretty standard when compared to other audio devices when used with the actual earphones. This product has an FM radio function, but it is unwieldly and frankly does not connect well at least with any of my local stations.
Overall, I would rate this product with a 3 out of 5 stars. The functionality is basic at best, but that is to be expected considering the low price on Amazon at $22.99. However, the FM feature did not work well and the volume with the built in speakers was also rather poor. Overall, I would say that it was an adequate MP3 player and worth the low cost but I would not pick this if you are going for a high quality MP3 player.
